Oops

It sort of slipped my mind that I hadn’t updated the Kitglobal website since we did Make Do and Knit back in March. I KNOW! I should be ashamed of myself, not quite sure where the last 4 months have gone but I’ve just put that right. If you have a look at the site you’ll see that things are changing again, well I don’t like to let the grass grow . ..

Make Do and Knit, 27th & 27th March 2010

This is another brilliant event organised by the very talented Susan Crawford of Knitonthenet ( together with some other talented folk ).

It’s a two day knitting and making fair with a vintage feel and as well as fashion shows and a cafe there’ll also be carefully selected retailers offering a wide selection of high quality knitting, spinning, dressmaking and haberdashery supplies. One of the things I loved about working in Jenners on Princes Street some years ago was the old style feel of their haberdashery department, sadly that’s gone along with that particular type of customer service. Bring back department stores like Grace Brothers!

I’ll be at Make Do and Knit with lots of goodies from duppdupp including a new collection of needle & hook cases, buttons, Boye needles & hooks and the hand turned pin boxes that I didn’t quite manage to get onto the website in time for Christmas ~ oops! I’ll also be taking Kitglobal kits so there’ll be a chance for anyone  who doesn’t know how soft our Baby Alpaca is to come and have a feel for themselves. There’s a newly formed Make Do and Knit group on Ravelry so join up here , say hello and spread the word.

Have a lovely weekend all

Etsy finds and the Eco Gift Guide

I’ve been a bit slack about getting my head around both Ravelry and Etsy so I’ve tried to put that right this week, so much so that my eyes are a bit screen weary, think I need to do some knitting.

Anyway, I spotted the work of Edinburgh based fashion knitwear label Isobel and Cleo at a wee makers fair in the Edinburgh last Sunday. Their collection of knitwear and accessories is an interesting and exciting blend of hand and machine knitting, if you like your knitting 4ply & Fairisle this will take you out of your comfort zone. Have a look at them over at Etsy and whilst you’re there check out Going Home To Roost a hub of gorgeous home crafting run by a lady called Bonnie. As well as selling  her range of hand made aprons, cushions and home accessories on Etsy Bonnie also blogs. This month she’s included Kitglobal’s Shetland Flame Scarf kit in Organic dyed Walnut in the Eco Conscious section of her Gift Guide which brings together truly original gift ideas for tech lovers, crafters, outdoorsy types and lots more.

The combination of this, Kirsty’s Homemade Christmas and the fog that’s been sitting over Edinburgh all day makes me want to stay in, stick another smokeless briquette on the fire and knit ~ in fact that just what I’ll do.

New prices on new kits at kitglobal

As it’s Christmas and everyone is trying to make their hard earned cash go a little further we’ve decided to take the cotton ‘kit’ bags out of the Shetland Flame and Chunkywool kits just added to the collection. We thought it would be nice to offer you something that’s still gorgeous but at a really really good price. Have a look at them here

New kits up at Kitglobal site

I’ve just finished working on the Kitglobal website, not only to give it a bit of a festive touch – only a bit mind – but also to add some new kits.

Following on from showing at Country Living last week I’ve taken on the Shetland Flame and Chunkywool designs that were previously available on the Kitglobal site. John and I thought they would be a lovely addition to the Kitglobal range as they offer more designs in less luxurious yarns but still offer great quality fibres. The new kit additions are also particularly good for beginner knitters but all of them make lovely presents! I’d love write more about the new yarns but my fingers are freezing and I can’t type anymore, try to stay warm.

Have a look at the new look site and kits here . . .

By the way Christmas is coming

We had a fantastic reaction to the Kitglobal range at the Country Living Fair which ended on Sunday. I always forget how much hard work shows like that are but the positive feedback made it worth it. I’ve recently taken on Knitglobal’s designs for the Shetland Flame and Chunkywool yarns which means a broader range of kits just in time for Christmas! I’m hoping to add to them Kitglobal site this week.  Will post then it’s done

Back from Bucks and the countdown continues

Country Living Fair Glasgow

I’m back from 2 weeks teaching the lovely 2nd year knit students on the BA Textiles course at Bucks New University down in High Wycombe. Going back there is like going home as I worked on the course for 8 years, if you’ve never heard of it you should have! It’s probably the best knitted textiles course in the UK directed by the ever inspiring and fabulous Ms Fiona Ross.

Anyway it’s exactly 2 weeks to Country Living Scotland for Kitglobal. As well as our first collection of designs we’ll also be showing a couple of new designs featuring a finer weight Baby Alpaca than the chunky we’ve used before plus a worsted spun cashmere which is SO soft  – you just have to come along and feel it for yourself. We’ll also have some new exciting new kits – more details closer to the show – AND a limited collection of ready to wear fashion accessories knitted / woven in Baby Alpaca. All in all a lovely selection, perfect gifts, should be a good show –  now if I could just work out how to fit everything onto the stand . . . .

Oh yes, we’ll be on Stand D19 and we’d love to see you there

4 1/2 weeks and counting . .

Ok so there are now four and a half weeks to the Country Living Fair with Kitglobal and to be honest I’m not liking the stress one bit. I had this great plan to add a lot of new designs in the finer Baby Alpaca and worsted cashmere but time flies far too quickly and other things have taken priority. I’m off down south for 2 weeks to teach machine knitting to the lovely degree students at Bucks New University in High Wycombe (I’m sorry hand knitters) , I have a particular soft spot for their course as I worked there for 8 years and the head of the course, the brilliant Ms Fiona Ross is a very good friend of mine. There’s also another design to be done for The Knitter . . .

Kitglobal, Knit Today issue 38

Well the nice people over at Knit Today have said some lovely things about our kits in the October issue which should be in the shops now. Judging from the revies’s title I think it’s officially ok to mention Christmas now.

Getting jiggy on Etsy

Kitglobal4etsy

I’ve been getting busy re jigging the Kitglobal shop on Etsy as, to be honest, it was a bit of a mess. Hopefully now it’s simpler to navigate with all the colours available listed in each kit listing AND a new shop banner.

I created an Etsy shop so that anyone wanting to spend in $ Dollars rather than £ Sterling would find it easy to do so. If you’ve not heard of it before – where’ve you been? They really champion individual designer makers and their broad range of wonderful hand made items. I almost mentioned Christmas again – now I have -  that’s two posts in a row, but it’s worth giving Etsy a look if you’re looking for gifts that you won’t find on the high street.
